And… there’s Autumn again

It seems that we have now reached September, which leaves us with no excuse to complain about the weather. But whilst preparing for our third trip to Ireland in as many years, which will start in just two weeks, we are getting all nostalgic by looking back on the brief hint of summer we got in early June on our U.K. tour.

Our new practice room doesn’t have any windows anyway, so we can just ignore the weather and work on some exciting new material. We’ve also been updating the video and photo sections of our website and left it flowing with summer vibes.

On top of all the Irish tour talk, we’ve also got a bunch of Dutch dates planned, among them a couple of shows as part of the Popronde. So; be sure to synchronize with this list of shows and we hope to see you there!!

All’s well that ends well

After a hectic few weeks in the Goodwin Sands camp, we wanted to take this chance to share our experiences and news with you all before we head off to enjoy the sun for a couple of weeks.

We would like to invite you  to look back on our fantastic tour of the UK with us by reading the final entry of our tourdiary, that is now online at 3voor12. This article is in Dutch, but there are also photo’s (by comrade Vincent Perdijk) of what we got up to over there. We would like to thank everyone that was part of the experience and also the ones at home giving us nice comments, sharing our video’s with their friends and so forth. THANKS.

Back here in Holland we have also been busy playing shows these last few weeks. We were invited into gardens, a livingroom and even onto a campsite in the gorgeous surroundings of Groningen, where we camped out in the van after a lovely evening playing songs for attentive ears and celebrating Pete’s birthday.

The next few months are shaping up to be just as interesting. We will be returning to Groningen during the Noorderzon festival on Wednesday 24th August and in September we will be hopping over to Ireland for the 3rd time in as many years. Sprinkled here and there are a couple of dates in Germany during October and November and during this time we are delighted to announce that we will be involved in the 2011 edition of the Popronde; more news on this to follow.

But first, we’re gonna catch us some sun in the coming two weeks, because when we are all back from holiday we will be locking ourselves in our new practice room to demo some new songs. Expect them up for free download in the Autumn.

Enjoy the summer! Speak soon!

La-de-digital

We’re all up in the digital world now. We finally got over the fact that new Twitter accounts look silly with zero followers and no tweets, and got ourselves this quirky new account.

We’ve also added a newer, better Facebook page and Tim is finally click-able too; he finally budged and got Facebook, so we can tag him all day long.

In other news, we have aquired a new video from our show at the library in Utrecht, when all was white at the back end of last year:

We are planning on doing more things out in the real world too; we’ve got a couple of interesting video’s planned for March, when we’ll record live versions of new songs ‘Feathered Folk‘ and ‘Dead Air‘. Watch this space!

So, these are exciting times in the Goodwin Sands camp but before then we’ll be playing a handful of shows in February and March. Hope to see y’all there :)

Best wishes from us!!

A very happy new year to everyone! We would like to wish everyone the best of luck, good health, sugar, spice and everything nice in a hopefully fruitful, fantastic and musical 2011. feel best on the road

After our little Christmas holiday, the Goodwin Sands machine is up and running again, fine-tuning some new songs for the brand new year. These will be out in the (digital) open for everyone to hear very soon. In the meanwhile we have updated our website and put some new touring photos online.

Even though our main focus right now is to write new material for the extensive touring schedule we’re working on in the summer and fall, we have a couple of shows lined up in the next couple of months where we hope to see lots of faces, both old and new.

Also; we’re still looking for that extra special person to complete us, so if you are, or know the Siouxsie to our Banshees, the KC to our Sunshine band, please EMAIL US. (a nice drummer/bassist/multi-instrumentalist living in or near Utrecht, or willing to travel, with enough time for practice and live shows)
That email bit also goes for anyone that knows a nice, affordable practice space in or near Utrecht.

LOVE

Out with the old, in with the new

After a busy 5 weeks we are licking our touring wounds in the warmth until January. The past twelve months have been somewhat manic for our little band: 56 shows in 5 countries, 2 E.P’s, a new camper van, a few new instruments here and there and masses of new, friendly faces sketched into our memories along the way.

We finished the year at the town library in Utrecht last Thursday, where we received a nice review from the kind people at 3 voor 12 Utrecht.

Next year is already shaping up to be a busy one, with tours planned in England, Germany and Ireland. We are also excited to announce that we will be playing with The Black Atlantic in June, thanks to the lovely people at Red Shoe Sessions in Nijmegen.

We are still on the lookout for a multi-instrumentalist to add to the Goodwin Sands ranks. If you are interested and living in the Utrecht/Amsterdam area, with enough time to keep up with our very fun, but busy schedule, then please send us an email.

In the meantime, we wish everyone a warm and happy festive period and we will see you all in the new year.

And here’s some Christmas music for people who don’t necessarily like Christmas music (by Brown Feather Sparrow)

All work and lots of play

Now that all bandmembers  are back in the country, we’re happy to get out of our tiny houses again and hit the road. We started our list of autumn shows in lovely Deventer. Last week we were invited to play in Nijmegen, which was swiftly followed this week by a session on Radio Zuidplas in Nieuwekerk a/d Ijssel. We had a wonderful time on all occasions and are looking forward to our upcoming shows in the coming weeks leading up to the festive period.

We are kicking things off this evening in Bibelot, Dordrecht, where we have been invited to play alongside Dutch bands Moss and Most Unpleasant Men.

A fifth band member with mechanical expertise is also a bonus after our little outing in Nijmegen

With all the excitement of playing shows we’d almost forgot about our decision to start the search for a fifth member of the band. NO, we’re not kicking anybody out, we’d just like to add a little something to our songs. Rolof could probably play the bass, cajon, mandolin and whatever he plays at the same time if he wasn’t limited to only four limbs, so awaiting the availability of an operation for that, we are looking for a bassplayer. Preferably a nice one living in the Utrecht/Amsterdam area with enough time to keep up with our very fun, but busy schedule.

Do you think you’re the one for us, or do you know somebody who is? We’d love to hear from you; so please email us.

Here are our remaining shows for 2010:
12th November|Bibelot, Dordrecht
13th November|De Drukkery, Middelburg (afternoon show)
13th November|Cafe Averechts, Utrecht (evening show)

27th November|Curieuze Neuze, Gent, BELGIUM
1st December|Theater Borra,Amersfoort
2nd December|De Bieb,Utrecht

Next week

Though the summer has treated us well with the recording of our new EP,   rehearsals in the sun and some (well-deserved) holidays, we’re very happy to be playing live again next week. We’re starting the new season pretty intense with the dates listed below. To add to the festivities of the release of “Time Well Spent” and playing all these shows, our friends from the UK, Head of Programmes, are joining us for the week.

This awesome little van is going to bring us all over the place, so there’s no excuse not to join us too on one of these occasions:

  • Friday 10th September at Cafe de Flierefluiter in Apeldoorn.
  • Saturday 11th September daytime: Festival aan de Springweg in Utrecht. We are playing at 11.00 am and 14.30 pm.
  • Sunday 12th September in the afternoon at the Intercultureel Theehuis/Kargadoor in Utrecht and in the evening at Cafe Lokaal Vredebreuk in Den Haag.
  • Monday 13th September in Amsterdam at Cafe Dwaze Zaken from 21.30.

If you wish to attend to our EP presentation/party on 11th September please send an email and we’ll tell you if we’re able to save you a seat.

Hope to see you soon!

New Song Online

We have just received the mastered versions of our new live cd “Time Well Spent” and we are pleased to be able to share with you a snippit of what’s to come. The second song from the EP, “Mammalian Skin”, is now streaming on our myspace.

“Time Well Spent” will be available in full from 12th September and to co-incide with this release we will be out and about in the Autumn months. We are excited to have been invited to play the Clifden Arts Week in September and just before we will be playing a few shows with our English friends Head of Programmes throughout the Netherlands.

Keep checking back for updates in the coming weeks, comprising new videos from the recordings and snippits of the new record.

Thanks for reading.

The Good Ship

We are back from our English tour with Head of Programmes. We would like to thank anyone who came to the shows, bought a cd, put us on, helped us out with a floor to sleep on, or cooked for us.

It was a great week and we have met so many genuinely nice people. We hope to be back in the UK in September. More on that in the coming weeks….
